Why can't the 30 Rock writers tell stories? Why even try going beyond their comfort zone (SNL-style sketches and setpieces)? And - it pains me to ask - how come the writing slid catastrophically downhill over the last six weeks of the season, even as most of the performances deepened in surprising ways?
How did The Office lose its zany/melancholy balance this year? Was it the focus on the goddamn wedding? When did its current tonal weirdening begin - after Season Four? Season Three? Is the formula sustainable for one more year?
Why was Parks & Recreation the best show of NBC's Thursday? Was ending on the off-beat like that really the best the writers could come up with? Am I correct in thinking that the early episodes were a good deal smarter about politics, among other things, than they're given credit for?
