If you don't know anything about sex, have never seen a naked person other than yourself, then the first time you look at pornography is a revelation. You see anatomy, interlocking shapes, configurations of desire, the expected progression of physical this-and-that.
It is, in short, a learning experience.
And after not too long it begins to make you stupid.
I believe we've talked about this before but this NYTimes article reminds me that the category error analogizing 'reading online' to 'reading books' persists; comparing article-browsing and fanfic-commenting to prolonged engagement with a novel is like comparing looking at a porn film to talking about sex with your lover(s) (or even doing the thing). The one is what attention-deficit babies think makes up the other.
Shiiiiit, I'm too busy getting married this weekend to care about saving this sorry goddamn civilization! Cry amongst yourselves!!!!
This is as good a place as any - found your blog via a comment you left either at Sepinwall's blog or the House Next Door. Enjoy it greatly, especially the TV stuff, and your numerous Whedon posts finally pushed me to dive in, after numerous proddings from other friends had softened me up, of course. Just wanted to let you know, and say congratulations on your marriage. Best of luck to you and keep writing!
