Attended this month: Jonathan Lethem @ Coolidge Corner, Camille Paglia @ the Brattle, and Magnolia Electric Co. at the MFA. Total cost for same: $3 plus T fare.
I love this city!!
And the reviews? To come, if it really matters. Suffice it to say that MECo was moving and incredible, Baby Camille was inspirational and infuriating, and Lethem was really, really nice and uplifting. Indeed, I'll be downloading some MECo post haste, and reading Fortress of Solitude sometime in the next couple months, definitely. It's moved up in the queue. As for Baby Camille: I curled up to her amazing essay 'Sontag, Bloody Sontag' today. She's really addictive when she gets warmed up, in person or in print. (As, for the record, is Mr DFW, whom I've been reading on and off lately. He's probably the best essayist I know of. And his Michael Joyce essay, from A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again, is maybe the best piece of 'journalism' I've read. Oh man oh man.)
